American House - Coxsackie

An event venue in a historic building

An intimate event venue on Reed Street in the historic village of Coxsackie, NY. With its charming elegance and stunning interiors, this venue offers the perfect backdrop for small weddings, cultural events, fundraisers, and more.

Nestled in the heart of Coxsackie, the American House stands as a symbol of history and transformation. Built in 1848 by Anthony Van Bergen on land purchased from George Reed, this two-story Victorian brick building, with its intricate wooden details, quickly became a landmark.

In 1880, Irish immigrant Michael Prendergast transformed the first floor into a lively saloon while living upstairs with his family. After his passing, his daughter Ellen Prendergast Hynes and her husband took over, naming it the "American House." Known for his teetotaling ways, Ellen’s husband ensured the saloon remained a respectful gathering place, preserving its legacy as a community cornerstone.
